The new spin-off will center on Charlotte, but it will also chronicle Lady Danbury’s early years. Arsema Thomas has been cast in the role of Lady Danbury’s younger self.
Deadline reported in early July that British actress Connie Jenkins-Greig (Mr. Selfridge, New Blood) will be joining the cast as Young Violet Ledger, the daughter of Vivian and Lord Ledger (played by Katie Brayben and Keir Charles, respectively).
According to Deadline, she has been regarded as a “nice and inquisitive teenager.” Corey Mylchreest will play young George, and Michelle Fairley, who played Catelyn Stark in Game of Thrones, will play his mother, Princess Augusta.
Sam Clemmett (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) will play young Brimsley, Richard Cunningham (The Witcher) will play Lord Bute, Tunji Kasim (Nancy Drew) will play Adolphus, Rob Maloney (Casualty) will play the Royal Doctor, Cyril Nri (Cucumber) will play Lord Danbury, and Hugh Sachs will reprise his Bridgerton role as the older Brimsley.
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story Plot
It’s the story of the clever and headstrong Queen Charlotte (India Amarteifio) and George (Corey Mylchreest), the man she’ll marry and raise 15 children with, set in the same era as Netflix’s Emmy-winning Bridgerton. As anyone who has seen The Madness of King George knows, George – soon-to-be King George III – and his difficulties with mental health may play a role in the plot.
Queen Charlotte does not appear in Julia Quinn’s ‘Bridgerton books, which follow the love tales of the eight Bridgerton siblings, so we can only guess where the plot of this spin-off series will take us. While Bridgerton stans will be familiar with the world of arranged marriages, courtly manners, and heaving bosoms, we know very little about the real Queen Charlotte.
Quinn and Shonda Rhimes are working on a fictitious novelization of the Netflix series Queen Charlotte, based on the life of Queen Charlotte, aka German noblewoman Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. It’ll be released to coincide with the show’s debut on Netflix.
