Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have reached an agreement in their divorce, avoiding a trial scheduled for next month, according to court documents filed on Tuesday.
The former couple and their attorneys submitted filings requesting a judge to approve the terms they had agreed on, which included Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, paying Kardashian $200,000 per month in child support.
According to the papers filed in Los Angeles superior court, the two will share custody and neither will pay alimony to the other. At Kardashian’s request, the judge divorced them in March, putting an end to their eight-year marriage. However, there were still questions about property and custody that would be settled in a trial that began on December 14.
They have four children between the ages of three and nine. The settlement proposal says that Kardashian and Ye will each pay half of the costs for the kids’ private security and private school, including college.
The settlement also says that they will each pay their own debts. They made a deal before they got married and kept most of their property separate.
In 2012, they started going out together, and in 2013, they had their first child. West asked her to marry him later that year using the big screen at the San Francisco Giants’ empty waterfront ballpark. They got married on May 24, 2014, at a Renaissance-era fortress in Florence, Italy.
When Kardashian first asked for a divorce in February 2021, it looked like they were going to have a friendly breakup with terms they both agreed on.
Neither of them talked about the breakup in public until early this year, when Ye started attacking Kardashian, her family, and her boyfriend at the time, Pete Davidson, on social media. He was upset that he wasn’t allowed to make important parenting decisions and that he wasn’t invited to their children’s birthday parties or other events.
Ye has fired two lawyers since filing for divorce. He also raised a number of technical issues and demands, such as the right to question Kardashian’s new husband under oath. Judge Steve Cochran quickly denied this request.
The settlement comes soon after several companies cut ties with Ye because of his offensive and anti-Semitic comments, which hurt his public image even more.
His most recent lawyer, Nicholas Salick, did not respond right away when asked about the settlement. It was Ye’s first marriage, and it was Kardashian’s third. Kardashian is a reality TV star, businesswoman, and influential person. Theirs was one of the most watched celebrity marriages of the last few decades.
