An Epic Sea Battle is Represented in the New Trailer for ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’

As excitement for the long-awaited sequel grows, a brand-new TV spot titled “Fortress” for Avatar: The Way of Water has been released, featuring some new footage from the film. The new trailer for Pandora teases the return of humanity in an epic naval battle.

While humanity suffered a humiliating defeat in the first film, they return with a vengeance, accompanied by some new and terrifying technology, as the TV spot briefly shows a Pandoran forest being completely annihilated by gigantic and enigmatic light beams.

The biggest feature, though, is the release of the new video from what appears to be the film’s last battle, in which whale-like animals fight alongside the Na’Vi against a naval fleet. The relevance of the animals in the film is unknown.

However, the footage mimics events from the previous film, when Pandora’s forest creatures aid in the overthrow of the RDA. So far, the film’s marketing material has done a decent job of not disclosing too much about the picture and keeping spoilers to a bare minimum, allowing plenty of room for conjecture in the weeks before the film hits theatres.

It’s no secret that James Cameron adores the water, and it appears that his enthusiasm is being reflected on the big screen. Avatar: The Way of Water will continue to push the envelope created by the previous film, as it was the first to use underwater motion capture technology.

Based on the teaser video thus far, the film will, at the very least, deliver enough visual astonishment and wonder. Only time will tell whether it can also create an emotionally interesting journey in the process.

Sam Worthington will play Jake Sully again in Avatar: The Way of Water. Zoe Saldaa will play Neytiri, and Stephen Lang will play a mix of Miles Quaritch. Sigourney Weaver also comes back for the second movie, but this time she plays Kiri, Jake and Neytiri’s adopted daughter.

Kate Winslet and Cameron work together again as Ronal, a member of the Metkayina Clan, and Tonowari, the clan’s leader, played by Cliff Curtis.

Fans can finally see Avatar: The Way of Water when it comes out in theatres on December 16. Tickets are now on sale. Check out the movie’s official TV spot below.
