LAHORE, Pakistan: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and daughter Maryam Nawaz have been arrested shorty after arriving at the Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore. The arrests come a week after being sentenced to prison in the Avenfield apartments case.
A National Accountability Bureau (NAB) team has taken Nawaz and Maryam in its custody. According to reports, the former premier and his daughter are cooperating with NAB officials.
The father-daughter duo have been put into a private jet and will be sent off to Islamabad soon where a helicopter will shift them to Adiala jail in Rawalpindi. Initially, NAB had plans to use a helicopter to transport Nawaz and Maryam to the capital, but bad weather forced NAB to look at other options.

Nawaz and Maryam arrived in Lahore from Abu Dhabi at 8:50pm after their flight was delayed for over two hours. They had left London a day earlier.
A PML-N rally headed by party president Shehbaz Sharif is heading towards the Allama Iqbal Airport and is currently at Charing Cross. The rally didn’t make it to the airport in time.

NAB Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal has warned that strict action would be taken against anyone who obstructs the arrest of the PML-N leaders. The party, however, has claimed that it would only take out a peaceful rally at the airport to welcome its leader.
