LAHORE, Pakistan: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan’s win has blown a breeze of fear in the direction of a number of departments for a tsunami of change is on its way.
The most affected by Imran Khan’s win may be the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) higher management or, to be more specific, the chairman of the board Najam Sethi for according to our reliable sources, Wasim Akram and Rameez Raja are already being tipped for the chairman slot.
Reports also suggest that Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has already started investigation into the assets of certain PCB officials.
Ramiz Raja and Wasim Akram
Ramiz Raja is a former cricketer, 1992 world cup winner, one of Pakistan Super League (PSL) brand ambassadors, and the former chief executive of PCB. Some of his greatest contributions to the cricket cause are the Indian Cricket Team’s tour of Pakistan in 2004 (the tour was India’s first to Pakistan in 14 years) and the establishment of PSL.
It should be noted that Raja had to step down as the chief executive because of his differences with the then chairman of the board Sheharyar Khan.
Wasim Akram is also a brand ambassador of PSL and has strong ties with the Australian cricket board and the English cricket board.
Cricket in Pakistan was in turbulent phase since 2009 when Sri Lankan team bus was attacked in Lahore to halt international cricket in the country. However, Zimbabwe toured Pakistan back in 2015 following which cricket is slowly, but steadily coming back to Pakistan. Wasim Akram also has a great chance of being given the position. He’s been associated with Imran Khan since both legends used to play cricket for Pakistan. However after change in the country’s political set-up, a big time change is likely in Pakistan cricket sooner.
