LAHORE, Pakistan: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Shehbaz Sharif said his party’s workers who were illegally arrested from Rawalpindi and Lahore should be released immediately.

“Arrests of workers is naked pre-poll rigging,” Shehbaz said in a presser alongside PML-N leaders Saad Rafique and Ayaz Sadiq.

Going on, Shehbaz said the whole caretaker government is involved in the rigging of the upcoming general election scheduled to be held on July 25. “The whole world knows PML-N is being targetted,” he added.

“Everyone is involved in this blatant rigging from the caretaker Punjab chief minister to the caretaker interior minister and police officials,”

The PML-N leader claimed that his party’s workers’ houses were broken down in the middle of the night and they were arrested from their own houses’ doors. He added that around 300 workers were also arrested from the Punjab’s Rawalpindi on Tuesday.

“No logic can defend the 30-day detention of our workers,”

The former Chief Minister (CM) Punjab demanded his workers be freed immediately. He went on to say that they will protest peacefully. He also urged the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to take notice of the arrests saying “By the time our workers are released polls will be over.”

The former Punjab chief minister further vowed that he and his party workers will go to receive former premier Nawaz Sharif at Lahore airport tomorrow “come what may”.

Shehbaz also warned police officials against arresting his workers. “Know that time never remains the same and after we win the polls, we will hold you accountable on July 26,” he said.
